Baccarat Made EasySeptember / 19 / 2020
For many players, baccarat is a sophisticated and exotic casino card game. You may have seen baccarat played in James Bond films, such as Dr. No, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, and Goldeneye. You may remember Bond sitting at the table, wearing his white tuxedo, saying “carte” to receive one more card.
Baccarat isn’t just a game for spies and high rollers, however. VIPCasino offers live dealer baccarat games that anyone can play on their mobile phones, tablets, or computers. Baccarat at VIPCasino is fun and, once you know the rules, easy to play.
How Baccarat Works
Baccarat is a card game that you play against another player, called the Banker. You’re called the Player. Other participants around the table may bet on the hand of either the Player or the Banker.
In the game, twos through nines are worth face value. Kings, Queens, Jacks, and Tens are worth zero. Aces give you one point.
To calculate the value of your hand, total those two cards and then use the second digit of that total. For example, if you have an 8 and a 2, their total is 10 points but the value of the hand is zero. If you have a 7 and a 5, their total is 12 and the value is 2.
Dealing the Cards
The game starts with the Banker dealing two cards each to the Player and themselves. What happens next depends on the totals of the two sets of cards:
- When either the Player or the Banker has a value of either 8 or 9, it’s called a natural win and no further cards are dealt.
- If the Player has a value of 6 or 7, he stands.
- If the Player has a value of 0 to 5, he chooses another card.
- If the Banker has a value of 6 or 7 and the Player doesn’t draw another card, the Banker stands.
- If the Banker has a value of 0 to 5 and the Player doesn’t draw another card, then the Banker draws a card.
What does the Banker do if the Player draws a third card? It depends on the value of the Banker’s hand and the card that the Player draws. It gets a little complicated, but in general, the lower the value of the Banker’s initial two cards, the more likely he is to draw a third card, too.
The winning hand is the one that comes closest to a value of 9. So, if the Player’s hand has a value of 8 and the Banker’s hand has a value of 7, the Player wins. If the Player’s hand has a value of 8 and the Banker’s hand has a value of 9, the Banker wins. If the hands have the same value, it’s a tie.
Other participants at the table bet on the final result. People can bet for the Player to win, the Banker to win, or for there to be a tie. In the event of a tie, anyone betting on the Banker or Player get their bets returned while those who bet on the tie get a payout.
